4. DC-3 Hops Tour (DC3/C47) (Level 1-Easy-6A)Status: Hidden
Description: DC-3 hops around Alaska. This tour was originally created on Alaska Adventures back in 2011, updated 2015 and again in 2017 for all to enjoy flying a historical piston aircraft in the wilds and ruggedness of Alaskan scenery.
DC-3 was a great aircraft in the 1960's and 70's.
The truth is that a "real" working DC-3 is a "man's" airplane — incredibly grungy inside and out; dripping black stuff; reeking of Mil-5606 hydraulic fluid, engine oil and 100LL (Avgas -aviation gasoline). DC-3s are unwieldy on the ground and demand considerable muscle taxiing in a wind. Stable in smooth air, they rarely feature autopilots, so you don't lounge there, occasionally caressing the trim, lightly pressing a button or adjusting the bug on a dial.
Tour Flight Leg Rating Conditions: Level 1/Easy. “6A0”: 6=Max landing rate is -600fpm. A-Autopilot and GPS use permitted. (There are no Stop-overs on any of these legs).
